Trauma Triage Notice
In January 2007 the EMS Board discussed the issue of the trauma triage CE requirement. They found that this CE was not readily available to all EMTs and as a result too many EMTs were being caught without it in the random audit process. The Board voted to exempt all providers from that point forward of that requirement. The exemption would last until the triage module could be made into a self-administered CE program available on the internet.
As previously announced on this list, this CE is now available, online and for free. It can be found by following the “Ohio Online EMS CE Courses” link at ems.ohio.gov.
Because of this, the EMS Board’s exemption to this CE requirement will be lifted and the trauma triage CE will again be required. This requirement will go back into effect beginning with people who receive notification of their pending expiration on or after September 1, 2009.
There has also been a slight change in the continuing education rules for all providers. The CE rule which states EMS providers must have “Eight hours on trauma issues, two of which must pertain to triage and transportation protocols approved by the EMS Board” will be changed because the online course can be completed in less than two hours. Effective July 2, 2009 the rule will be “Eight hours on trauma issues to include completion of the trauma triage and transportation protocols approved by the EMS Board.”
